Submissions are invited for the following categories: Technical Program, Educators Program, Product Presentations, Video and Art&Design Shows, and Interactive Entertainment Demonstrations.

Technical Program

Technical Program will consist of plenary sessions including keynote speeches by invited speakers, technical sessions featuring papers, panels and round tables, lectures and tutorials.

Suggested key topics include (but are not limited to):

Real Time Graphics Multimedia
Computer Animation
Virtual Worlds
Physically Based Modeling
Virtual Reality
Avatars and Virtual Humans in VR
Realtime physics-based models
Games and Entertainment Applications of VR
Augmented Reality
Scientific Visualization
Rendering Techniques
Geometric and Solid Modeling
Computational Geometry
Volume Visualization
Data Compression
Geographic information systems
Computer Vision
3D Modelling from Camera Views
Computer Graphics and the Internet (VRML, Java, etc.)
Digital libraries

Papers: Papers on all aspects of computer graphics are encouraged. We are interested in papers that present results of new research, discuss the implementation and use of systems, or describe novel applications of computer graphics techniques. Normally, papers must fit into eight pages of the printed Conference Proceedings. In addition, short papers of up to two pages for ideas that can be communicated briefly are also invited. Some work can be communicated much more effectively in video than in print. Papers on video may be no longer than 15 minutes. They must be submitted with a two-page summary for publication in the Conference Proceedings.

Posters/Sketches: Work in progress may be submitted for presentation in poster/sketch form. Submit a cover page and a one-page description of the work.

Courses: The first two days of the conference will be devoted to experiencing and learning about the varied topical areas that constitute the disciplines of computer graphics and computer vision. Two courses - Computer Graphics and Computer Vision - will be given in parallel. Each of the courses will be composed of eight lectures (four half-day tutorials). Suggested topics are those mentioned above as the key topics of Technical Program. The courses are joinly arranged by Technical and Educators Programs. Educational aspects of the courses are pointed out below in Educators program section.

Electronic submission of proposals is encouraged. The cover page of the proposal should include a title, a course (Computer Graphics or Computer Vision), length (two-hours lecture or half-day tutorial), author's name(s), title, affiliation, complete mailing address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address. The proposal must also include a description of the lecture/tutorial (two page maximum). Guidelines that have to be followed by the authors can also be found on the WWW page at:
http://www.keldysh.ru/gc98

Panels: Panels addressing topics relevant to the theme of the conference are invited. Proposals should follow the directions for a paper but state clearly that it is a panel session. Panel sessions of two hours duration will consist of several presentations and a discussion. Panel proposers should include the names and affiliations of as many panel participants as possible. Panel proposals should describe the topics to be debated and identify the prospective panellists. Panels should be organised such that to encourage audience participation. Each panellist should include a position of statements on the topics with a brief biography about her or himself. These statements will be included in the conference proceedings.

Educators program

In addition to general topics of interest, Educators Program accentuates its own crucial topics. They are:

Papers: Extended abstracts (up to two pages) on topics consistent with the themes of the Educators Program are invited. Abstracts will be reviewed and will be included in the Conference proceedings if accepted. Please format your abstract in accordance with submission guidelines.

Panels: Panels addressing topics relevant to the theme of the Educators Program are also invited.

Courses: During the first two days at the Conference, the focus is on formal instruction. It is supposed that the courses declared above and organised as regular University courses will be published on CD-ROM to be helpful teachers in development of their own University courses. Additional tentative topics are listed in the following table:

Computer Graphics Computer Vision
Introduction to OpenGL Programming
Introduction to VRML 97
Introduction of Proramming in Java 3D
Wavelets: Computer Graphics Applications
Color Image Coding & Color Management
Video Compression Techniques
AI Techniques for Games and Animation
Image-Based Modeling and Rendering
Techniques for Volume Visualization
Edge Detection
Color- and Texture-Based Image Segmentation
Searching for Digital Pictures
Shape from Shading and Motion
3D Photography
Photogrammetry: Epipolar Geometry
Camera Calibration
Face and Gesture Recognition
HMM

Demonstrations: Demonstrations of software, courseware, simulations and other resources used in computer graphics education will be an important part of the conference.

Product Presentations

The Conference will not be accompanied by a commercial exhibition. Meantime, product presentations related to computer graphics, computer vision, distance learning are welcome. Publishing and software houses are invited to contact the Conference Secretariat for further information.

Video and Art&Design Shows

GC '98 plans to host a film and computer generated art/design shows. It is supposed that materials from well-known festivals (SIGGRAPH, Ars Elecronica, Imagina, Anigraph) will be presented in Electronic Theater.

Artist and designers are invited to submit slides and their work to the Art Gallery.

Interactive Entertainment Demonstrations

This event is now under consideration. Any proposals and ideas are welcome.

Publications

The conference proceedings will be published in advance of the conference. The conference proceedings will include papers, panel submissions, and posters. Publication on CD-ROM is under consideration.

Submissions

One-shot paper submission procedure for GC'98 has been approved. There will be only one full-paper submission, due 5/21/97. The proposed paper will be the final paper published if accepted. That is, there will be no revisions on accepted papers. Submission of a paper proposal implies a commitment to present a paper, if accepted.

Because of time limits, GraphiCon'98 encourages electronic submissions in electronic format. Acceptable formats are PostScript, Adobe Acrobat PDF, Word for Windows. Electronic submissions may be on floppy disk (PC only) or by e-mail (or ftp). Author's Kit can be asked from
gc98@spp.keldysh.ru

Guidelines to be followed by the authors can be found on the WWW at:
http://www.keldysh.ru/gc98

Cover page for all submissions: The cover page must be submitted by electronic mail in plain text as a message separate from the submission. Please include your name and contact information including fax, e-mail, postal mail and telephone, the title of your proposal, the conference theme in which it best fits, the names and addresses of all contributors, and statement of commitment that ``if the paper is accepted, one of the authors will present it at the GraphiCon '98 Conference". Clearly state whether the submission is a paper, short paper, poster, panel, or demonstration.
